The destruction of Galveston in 1900 after a cat 4 (unnamed) came through town. A 17 foot sea wall was erected afterwards to protect it from another storm. I just heard, however, that they are expecting up to a 22 foot surge. Houston is in Ike's path but did not have it's modern shipping channel in 1900 nor was it the 4th largest city in the US...this will get interesting before morning... Friday, September 12, 2008

Decided not to stop and listen
for the " bird sounds" tonight.
Watched a little of the game but
it was 60-13 A/P when we left. Just
heard that was the final score.
Naturally Anderson Cooper is out
there in the middle of the storm.
As you say, it is going to get
real interesting before it is
over with. Think some that stayed
behind might wish they hadn't.Just
glad I'm not there .Wouldn't live
close to a river/lake or ocean....
