Working Ragbrai

Top: Ragbrai went through the small town of Belle Plaine today. One of our Pizza Huts in the River Valley Area is located here. We opened at 9am (pizza, pasta, Pepsi) as the bikers had to be out of town by 1:30 and on their way to the Amanas and then North Liberty.
Bottom: We took a break and walked to their downtown area: bikers, beer, bands, bathrooms. We heard 16,000 were riding this year. They came from Tama via the Bohemian Alps.

  1. Neat pictures. I forwarded the
page on to Betty at work so
hopefully Nancy and her can see
it. Maybe it will get them
    involved in the process. Take
    care

  2. I remember when RAGBRI came into GC years ago -- tons o' people and bikes and tents! Bet you did good business that day at the Pizza Hut there in that community!

  3. When Ragbrai came through GC 25 years ago, there were something like 7000 riders. Now it's up to 16000. They actually have to do the overnights in larger communities cause the smaller ones can't handle them anymore...there is probably more like 20000 when you include support vehicles, people. Maybe your father-in-law should do this next year... In the few minutes I had, I talked to people from Virginia, Pennsylvania...they come from all over...and travel in groups with painted school buses as support vehicles...it's a carnival type atmosphere...with guidelines.
